Many of us think about the kind of transportation that will suit us the most when we travel. Flying is one of the most handy solutions even if there are many others because it’s quick and sometimes simple.
However, the majority of people prefer to gripe about flying because there are too many moving parts, not because it’s challenging. These days, everything is paid for, including any extras you could like and every bag.
But things weren’t always that way; in fact, flying was a really enjoyable experience during the Golden Age of Aviation. People thought that flying was a luxury that only the wealthy could afford during that era, which spanned the late 1940s to the 1970s.
The trip offered several causes for happiness, such as roomy seats, a well-mannered and well-dressed crew, exquisite meals, and plenty of exciting experiences.
Graham M. Simons, an aviation historian, talked about the Golden Age of Air Travel. He claimed that the procedure was quick, opulent, and seamless. On board the aircraft, passengers may take advantage of ample seating, bar lounges, and unlimited champagne.
A significant number of individuals dressed up for the flight, which is really different from what we see nowadays.
On the other hand, there were issues with purchasing the ticket and traveling. You would have to buy the ticket through a travel agency or through another challenging method because the Internet wasn’t working.
In addition, the costs were far greater; in 1955, a ticket from Chicago to Phoenix cost about $138. That might not seem like much, but in today’s dollars, adjusted for inflation, it is roughly $1200.
With so many alternatives, flying amenities were also something to think about. There were regulations, of course, but they weren’t as rigid so that travelers could enjoy their flight. On the other hand, they were supposed to wear a jacket and tie.
In the early days of aviation, flight attendants were quite a sight. They were required to follow extremely rigid standards of behavior and appearance. The uniforms become much more skimpy in the 1960s.
So keep in mind that we have come a long way the next time you whine about flying. Not only is it a fantastic day today, but it was a great day back then too.
