Resurfaced photos of U.S. Senator JD Vance, then a student at Yale Law School, purportedly wearing drag at a 2012 Halloween party have drawn harsh criticism. The pictures, which have gone viral, feature Vance donning a skirt, a shirt, and a blonde wig.

Matt Bernstein shared the images on X with the comment, “new: i have obtained a photo of jd vance in drag while at yale law school,” which sparked the uproar. The photographs’ original source, Travis Whitfill, attested to their veracity by saying, “This was taken in 2012.” A classmate took this picture and forwarded it to me.

Once the photos gained popularity, people started making fun of them online. One user even made the joke, “Feelin’ cute.” Maybe a future vice presidential candidate. Others, on the other hand, supported Vance, claiming that the images were being altered. “People consider putting on a wig at a college party as drag?” inquired one person. That is offensive to my pals who are drag.

Rather of focusing on the conduct itself, critics pointed out Vance’s apparent hypocrisy. The disparity between the images and Vance’s stated position on drag was brought up by a user who said, “Call him a hypocrite and a bigot for demonizing others who wear drag.”
