WEB DESK: Yusuf Dikec, a Turkish pistol shooter, won a silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and has drawn attention from all around the world with his unique style. Dikec’s easygoing personality and unconventional style have made him a social media celebrity.

Pictures of the 51-year-old contestant that have gone viral online show him wearing a T-shirt, with one hand folded nonchalantly into his pocket, regular prescription glasses, and a calm expression.

This sharp contrast to the highly specialized equipment worn by his Serbian counterpart Damir Mikec and other competitors has prompted analogies to common people and even fictitious characters.

One aspect of Dikec’s nontraditional shooting approach is his lack of the normal Olympic goggles and ear protection. Rather, he wore his normal glasses and simple earplugs.

In the mixed team 10-meter air pistol event, he and partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan took second place, securing Turkey’s first-ever Olympic medal in shooting despite their limited equipment.

Over 21 million people have viewed the widely shared image of Dikec on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter. It features him in motion with a casual stance and minimal equipment. The picture has garnered a lot of praise and laughter since it shows off his amazing accomplishment and carefree demeanor.

After competing in each Summer Olympics since 2008, Dikec won his first medal on Tuesday. His nonchalant demeanor in comparison to his colleagues’ more conventional equipment has garnered positive feedback from the online community.

“I love how everyone uses specialized lenses for shooting to avoid blur and increase precision,” a user commented. However, Turkey sends out a man who appears to have taken up shooting for fun and wins silver.

“This is what you call aura,” said the other. Yusuf Dikec, 51, of Turkey appears without any specialized shooting gear, appearing to have spontaneously emerged from the crowd and tried his hand at it. He won silver in the Olympics quite casually.
