Families all throughout the world observe the Christmas ritual. While there are many commonalities in the ways that people may observe the holiday, every family may observe it differently.
We might occasionally receive a present that is given sincerely. When we see a present like that, we truly feel happy. However, some of them can be acting with a hidden agenda.
This is demonstrated in the anecdote that follows, where a husband gave his wife a present that would have infuriated many other wives. When she found out why it was done, she was likewise unhappy, but the following year, she was able to move past it.
About 23 years ago, this happened. My spouse was a terrible gift-giver. He was going to have his wish granted.
About ten days before Christmas that year, I came home to find a big box wrapped up, and he claimed it was for me. He was giddy with excitement. Considering that we have always been really poor, I should really add that I have always made purchases for our kids and his avaricious family (per MIL’s wishes). We never went without.
I wasn’t all that thrilled about this gift, for whatever reason. Sensibility. When Christmas Eve finally arrives, we open presents. He tells me that I’m going to love this present as he becomes very thrilled. I find when I open the box… A store vacuum. I always swept and mopped even though I didn’t need to because we had hardwood floors and linoleum. He told me that’s great since it tidys up his domain, the garage. even gathers water. And because he had tried it before finishing it up, he stated it worked really well. I was furious! He purchased it for himself. If it was a $5 necklace that made my neck green, I would have been thrilled.
I wouldn’t even go to bed with him that night. I was lying down in the living room when he entered and told me to get in bed. I told him that I couldn’t look at him, so I wouldn’t. Then he tells me how selfish I was, saying that gifts were supposed to be something the family could use, not things we would want.
I stayed there all night planning my retaliation. It took me a year to receive it, but as they say, it was best served cold. I said nothing and kept my revenge plan a secret from everyone.
After 50 weeks, I discovered it. It was gazing at me as if to say, “Here I am, and it is time,” even though I wasn’t even looking for it. Inside a massive box. I made the gift purchase fast, got some wrapping paper, and concealed it. No cunning Petes, please.
On Christmas Eve, I placed the gift beneath the tree while he was at work. I used two rolls of inexpensive wrapping paper and embellished it with a bow and ribbon. It was nicely weighted as well.
I wait while we begin to open gifts. When he finally sees this large box and realizes it’s his, his eyes light up. I informed him that this was expressly purchased for him, and he was ecstatic.
When he opens the box, a case of toilet paper is inside. Then I used his quote. Christmas was about what our family needed or could utilize together, not about what we might want. Everybody wipes. He was enraged.
He voiced his grievances to his siblings and others. He was informed that he deserved the toilet paper by my family and his brothers.
My family’s husbands have never given their wives a vacuum cleaner as a gift, even to this day.
