The use of marijuana is becoming more socially acceptable for both medicinal and recreational purposes, but a recent study advises those over 30 to give it some serious thought. According to research from The University of Queensland, using marijuana after the age of thirty is associated with a lesser likelihood of achievement in life goals like happiness, income, and education.

The study examined drug usage at ages 21 and 30 while tracking over 8,000 moms and 2,000 kids. The researchers observed that while “lowered success rates” were evident for users over 30, younger users did not exhibit significant setbacks.

However, there are restrictions. Since Australian women were the study’s subjects, it “may not represent other countries well.” Additionally, it made use of indicators like relationship status and property, which don’t always represent everyone’s definition of success.

The study’s failure to monitor the use of other drugs raises additional concerns because it acknowledged that the results might have been impacted by “polydrug use generally rather than the specific use of cannabis.”
