The bathroom was filled with the comforting warmth of steam as water cascaded from the showerhead. The soft patter of droplets against porcelain echoed gently in the cozy space. A thin mist curled around the vanity mirror, blurring the reflection of the man leaning casually against the doorframe. His arms were crossed, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of his lips as he watched his wife, silhouetted behind the shower curtain.
His wife, Sarah, hummed softly to herself, enjoying the rare moment of solitude. The soothing rush of warm water against her skin made the worries of the day melt away. She had almost reached for her shampoo when she noticed the familiar presence at the doorway.
She sighed, but a small smile played at her lips. “What is it, Alex?” she asked, her voice carrying a mix of amusement and curiosity.
Alex grinned, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “Honey, I think we should try something new tonight.”
Sarah arched an eyebrow, intrigued. She peered out from behind the shower curtain, water dripping from her dark lashes. “Oh? And what exactly did you have in mind?” she asked, feigning suspicion.
Alex’s grin widened, his eyes twinkling with mischief. He took a dramatic pause, as if building up suspense for something grand. Then, with an air of absolute seriousness, he said, “I was thinking… maybe you could start by actually letting me hold the remote for once!”
For a moment, there was only the sound of running water and the soft hum of the bathroom fan. Then, laughter erupted from Sarah’s lips, bright and genuine. “Oh, is that so?” she teased. “After all these years, you’re finally gathering the courage to make such a bold request?”
Alex chuckled, stepping a little closer. “Desperate times call for desperate measures. I mean, come on, Sarah! Every night, it’s either romantic comedies, cooking shows, or home renovations! What about me? What about my need for action, adventure, and—you know—explosions?”
Sarah giggled and flicked a few droplets of water in his direction. “Oh, please. You act like I never let you watch what you want.”
Alex gave her a deadpan look. “Last week, I asked to watch a thriller. You said, ‘Just one episode of that baking show first.’ Three hours later, I knew how to make the perfect croissant, but I still hadn’t seen a single chase scene.”
Sarah burst into another fit of laughter. “Okay, okay! Maybe I get a little carried away sometimes. But I promise, tonight, you can pick whatever you want.”
Alex’s eyes lit up in triumph. “Really? No take-backs? No sneaky switching to ‘just one more episode’ of your dramas?”
She held up her hands in surrender. “I swear!”
Alex let out a celebratory cheer. “Yes! Tonight, my dear, we dive into the world of high-speed car chases, intricate heists, and jaw-dropping fight scenes!”
Sarah rolled her eyes with a smile. “Fine, but if it’s all explosions and no storyline, I reserve the right to doze off.”
“Deal!” Alex said, planting a quick kiss on her damp forehead before stepping back. “Now, you finish up in here. I’ll get the popcorn ready.”
As he turned to leave, Sarah called after him, “Just don’t get too comfortable with that remote! Tomorrow, we’re going right back to my shows.”
Alex laughed as he exited the bathroom, shaking his head. “We’ll see about that, sweetheart. We’ll see.”
Little did he know, Sarah had already devised a plan to get the remote back in her hands before the night was over. But for now, she let him have his small victory.
