A country music artist is advised not to bring up Jesus… There is a standing ovation for his response.Over the course of four decades, Vince Gill, a well-known country singer with the most Grammy Awards of any male country performer, has established an impressive career.

Known for his gospel-infused performances, Gill gained popularity as a solo performer after becoming well-known in 1979 with the band Pure Prairie League. Since his 2007 induction into the Country work Hall of Fame, Gill’s religious beliefs have permeated every aspect of his work.

He just received an invitation to play at Nashville’s famous Grand Ole Opry, a 1925-era country music venue. But the organizers asked that he refrain from singing any religious songs, especially ones that spoke about Jesus. Instead of complying with the request, Gill sang Kris Kristofferson’s gospel song “Why Me Lord,” which has been notably sung by icons like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.

His audacious choice earned him a standing ovation, and the audience was touched by the passionate performance rather than the subject matter. Fans responded favorably to Gill’s decision to remain loyal to his artistic vision and beliefs, demonstrating that the influence of his music outweighs any restrictions placed on him.
