Despite being in hospice care for some time, former president Jimmy Carter found the strength to attend his loving wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter,’s funeral and memorial service. Rosalynn Carter passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 96.

Jimmy was by his wife’s side in her last hours of a rich life. According to his kid, he requested some alone time with her so that they could converse while their beds were next to each other.

Jimmy Carter and the late first lady attended services at Maranatha Baptist Church, which served as the site of the funeral. Past tributes took place in Atlanta and the neighboring city of Americus.

In honor of Rosalynn, Jimmy appeared in a wheelchair, dressed in a black suit, and carrying a blanket with their faces on it.

Sadly, Jimmy’s condition is also getting worse. Jason Carter, his grandson, provided an update on his grandfather’s health and hinted that the 39th President of the United States might not be around for too long.

For more than 70 years, Rosalynn Carter was her husband’s motivator.

They stood by one another through good times and bad.

In the statement that was released when Rosalynn passed away, Jimmy Carter stated, “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished.” “When I needed it, she provided me with sage advice and inspiration. Rosalynn’s presence in the world ensured that I always had love and support from someone.

Sadly, everyone seems to agree that Jimmy’s condition could rapidly deteriorate now that Rosalynn is no longer with us.

Before Rosalynn’s funeral ceremony, Jimmy’s grandson told the New York Post, “He’s coming to the end, and he’s very, very physically diminished.”

“She really was that rock for him, but he has been this moral rock for so many others.”

Amy Carter, the couple’s daughter, read a letter Jimmy wrote to his wife when he was overseas serving in the Navy during Rosalynn’s burial service.

“My sweetie, each time I’ve been apart from you, I’ve been overjoyed to come back and realize how amazing you are,” he wrote. “I fall in love all over again when I see you.”

Jimmy and Rosalynn’s love narrative has elements of a fairy tale.

“Rosalynn is my best friend… the perfect extension of me, probably the most influential person in my life,” Jimmy Carter told aides during his 1977–1981 presidency.

In addition to being the First Lady, Roselynn was her husband’s closest confidante, backing him in all of his decisions as the head of state.

The Carters went back to living in their family home in Plains, Georgia, after leaving the White House. Built in 1961 when the Carters required a larger home after welcoming their fourth child, the house is valued at $209,996 according to Zillow. The couple’s lives was always quiet and extremely straightforward.

The Carter family disclosed Rosalynn’s dementia diagnosis earlier this year. Soon after, she was placed in hospice care, where she passed away surrounded by her devoted spouse and family. Her health badly degraded, and she was hardly able to move without the use of a walker.

Jason, Jimmy’s grandson, spoke at the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum on Tuesday and gave an update on his grandfather. “(My grandfather’s) health is good. As you are aware, he has been in hospice care for over a year and a half. I believe that he is nearing the conclusion of his journey with faith because, as I have mentioned previously, there is a particular aspect of it that holds great significance for him. Additionally, there is a phase of the spiritual trip that can only be experienced at the conclusion, and I believe he has been there.

Jason said to the forum attendees, “My grandmother’s passing was a difficult moment for all of us, including my grandfather.”

“This process really turned into a celebration for us as a family because of the incredible and meaningful outpouring of love and support from everyone in this room and around the world.”

Jason recalled talking with his grandfather a few weeks earlier as they were sitting together watching an Atlanta Braves game at the mental health forum.

Jason recalled, “People ask me how I’m doing, and I say, I don’t know.’ He said, ‘Well, I don’t know myself.'”
