Along with some old flowers, my mother-in-law gave me a nasty birthday note. You’ll be shocked by what it stated.

I had planned a party for my 29th birthday, but my mother-in-law, Denise, had other ideas. Denise took advantage of my husband Evan’s business trip by sending me a bundle of wilting flowers and a nasty message. However, she was not prepared for the strength and love that would result from being cruel.

I was relieved to see the delivery van as soon as I opened the door and realized Denise had finally achieved something. However, the scent of the dried blossoms and their deadly odor conveyed a different message.

The note read, “This is what’s going to happen to your relationship with Evan.” It will wither and dry out. “You’re not worthy of him.” I felt everything crumble around me, but Denise had no idea that her hate would be matched with love and power.

Evan surprised me by arriving home early, and together we devised a strategy to demonstrate to Denise the true meaning of love and relationships. To demonstrate our happiness together, we transformed our apartment into a flower garden.

Denise was rendered dumbfounded by what she saw when she arrived. The lovely, loving environment with candles and flowers was a far cry from the evil she had attempted to propagate.

“Our marriage is growing stronger; it won’t die like the flowers you sent,” Evan said, and those words really got to me. You are the one dying, Mom, because of your hate and rage.

Denise realized at that time that it was too late to undo what she had done. He loved and watched out for me instead of her daughter, who shoved her son away.

The days passed and Denise’s mood shifted. She became less contemptuous and snarky, and although she never expressed regret, she began to realize that what she was doing was wrong.

My birthday used to be a symbol of hate, but today it represents the power of love and willpower. Together, Evan and I transformed an unfortunate event into an opportunity for healing. Denise was shown by this that love always triumphs over hate.
